Living on a dirt road has its advantages, but road dust isn't one of them. Revised 27 May 2021.
The winds faraway, not a whisper
doing its job, the leaves all steady
and firm, the air like a trumpet
for putting in a good word about
the doldrums. Good days and bad,
like jazz and a blackbird in the key
of C, are as honest as saying who
knows what to expect. Summertime,
big time playing on Jazz 24 and not
a word about what’s to come next.
But then a car drives by, the road
dust obliterating every one of my senses
and I take it all back, what I’ve said
about the leaves, good days and bad,
jazz in the air and the key of C.
